lionbackup Wizard
The lionbackup Wizard is the desktop app for
lionbackup-client,
built for Windows first and running on Linux as well. It finds or downloads the
client, creates and edits its configurations (each one checked with
lionbackup-client --validate), runs backups with live progress, restores
them, measures compression on your own files and keeps the client up to date.
Compression, encryption and upload happen in the client, never in the wizard.
Crate and binaries are called lionbackup-wizard. The user guide (German) is at
docs.lionbackup.cloud.
Download
From 0.1.0 on, each release on this repository's Releases page carries the
Windows and Linux binaries with their SHA256SUMS. The Windows .exe is
portable (no installer). It is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen warns
on first start. The Linux binary needs glibc 2.39 or newer (Debian 13, Ubuntu
24.04 or later). After that the wizard updates itself: Info & Updates finds a
newer release on downloads.lionbackup.cloud, checks it against its
SHA256SUMS and installs it in place.
Build from source
The Rust version is pinned in rust-toolchain.toml;
rustup installs it on the first cargo call. On Debian or Ubuntu, the Linux
build also needs:
sudo apt-get install pkg-config libssl-dev libfontconfig1-dev libxcb-shape0-dev libxcb-xfixes0-dev libxkbcommon-dev
cargo build --release --locked # target/release/lionbackup-wizard
cargo run # configs and client from disk
LIONBACKUP_WIZARD_DEMO=1 cargo run # the whole interface on sample data, nothing written
The Windows .exe is cross-compiled with
cargo-xwin:
cargo xwin build --release --locked --target x86_64-pc-windows-msvc
Reproducible builds
Releases are built in the toolchain image from
docker/toolchain.Dockerfile by
scripts/build-release.sh. The same commit built the
same way gives the same bytes, so you can check a release against its
SHA256SUMS:
docker build -f docker/toolchain.Dockerfile --target toolchain -t lionbackup-wizard-toolchain docker
mkdir -p /tmp/wizard-dist
docker run --rm -v "$PWD:/build/src:ro" -v /tmp/wizard-dist:/build/out \
lionbackup-wizard-toolchain sh /build/src/scripts/build-release.sh
Build from a clone of the release's tag. For a byte-for-byte comparison, use
the published image instead of building it, since an image rebuilt later can pick
up newer Debian packages:
git.lionbackup.cloud/lionbackup-packages/lionbackup-wizard-toolchain:<rust>-<hash>, as
named in the release notes.
Changes per version are in CHANGELOG.md, how to contribute in CONTRIBUTING.md, and how to report a vulnerability in SECURITY.md.
